Mugi 0.18.0 (October 2026) is a public beta — early software from a solo project, not a finished 1.0.

A local Mac agent that gets things done — in a native app, not a terminal. Runs on your Mac with open-source models you choose; no data leaves your machine, nothing is collected, and everything you create stays under your control.

It maintains an ongoing model of your context and commitments, then surfaces background work as reviewable proposals and tasks — never silent action.

Recent progress (October 2026)

Version 0.18.0 is the memory release — Mugi keeps only what you told it, and shows you:

• A memory you can read and correct — the You page lists what Mugi kept, in your own words, with Fix and Forget on every line.
• Only what you said is kept — background noticing no longer files facts about you; anything it merely worked out comes back as a question.
• Secrets never reach the model — a number you ask Mugi to keep goes to your Mac’s Keychain, with one Touch ID each time it uses it.
• Forget means forget — forgetting a fact also hides it when it returns worded differently.

Version 0.17.0 is the local-engine release:

• Local chat runs on mlx-serve — Mugi installs a small native engine for your models; there is no Python model server to set up.
• Plain sentences when something goes wrong — a model that will not load gets an explanation, not a server log.
• A new encoder for Library search — a library built before this update needs a one-time re-index, and the Library says so when search needs attention.
• macOS 26.2 or later is now required — Apple Silicon is still required; Intel Macs are not supported.

Version 0.16.0 is the Library-and-documents release:

• Folders in the Library — put documents in folders without copying, moving, or deleting the files on disk. Search or ask This folder or Whole Library.
• Change a Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or PDF where it lives — Mugi stages a copy; you look; one Change Documents card writes it, or doesn’t.
• Chat knows which note or page you have open — “add a line here” and “change the heading” mean the Vault note, Results page, or Library document on screen.
• Follow-up turns stay fast — the tool list no longer grows mid-thread, so the next round does not re-read the whole conversation.

Version 0.15.0 is the Mac-and-research release:

• Sort out this Mac — ask in ordinary language; it asks before changing anything, in words rather than settings-file jargon, and keeps a list you can undo.
• Look it up instead of recalling it — a question you would not want to get wrong gets sources.
• Research is not a mode you switch on — the magnifying glass is gone; a long investigation can leave the conversation.
• A long page comes back as a map — the whole document stays on disk; Mugi queries the part it needs.

Version 0.14.1 lets you hire an agent by name:

• A title, a charter, and a stop-line — on by default. Chat can hire, narrow, and retire; Settings can widen, reinstate, turn them off, or delete.
• Durable work on the board — named agents claim tasks and finish them. An unknown or retired assignee is refused.
• A denied capability stays denied — closing one write verb closes the rest of that family.

Version 0.14.0 remains the personal-context release — being known accurately, and being able to check:

• About You has its own window — open it from the menu bar and read everything Mugi has written down about you, in plain sentences, with when it learned each one and where it came from. Correct or delete any of it.
• It listens in ordinary conversation — mention that you have moved, or that a deadline shifted, and it can be remembered without you filing anything.
• Corrections stick — when you put Mugi right about something, it records the correction rather than making the same mistake next week.
• “That’s not about me” — rule a subject out and it stays out, including when the same thing comes back worded differently.
• It asks before it guesses — things it worked out rather than being told are marked as such, and it checks them with you in passing rather than presenting them as fact.
• Abilities — when Mugi needs a capability it does not have, it asks in chat and you grant it in one tap, instead of quietly failing.
• Read what it cites — PDFs open in the app at the page a citation points to.

Earlier, 0.13.0 brought the Modern layout, the first version of About You, and the plugin SDK with per-plugin dashboards. 0.12.2 focused on documents you can work with, whole-file reads, iMessage reach, and clearer personal-data boundaries. 0.12.0 added Mac app control with confirmation, save/download/convert into your workspace, and a calmer cold-start. Before that, 0.11.0 focused on the rooms you keep:

• Vault as its own notebook — hybrid search, related inspector, wikilinks. “On my mind” triage stays separate.
• Knowledge Library as a continuous workspace with source repair, clearer ingest status, and trust health.
• Kernel cutover complete — chat and Kanban workers share one stack.

What this preview is

• A native Mac app — setup wizard, chat, Settings; not a command-line project you assemble yourself
• A fast local agent for Mac — MLX inference on your hardware, not someone else's cloud
• Recommended models out of the box; swap in any compatible model you prefer (results vary)
• No telemetry, no data collection — conversations, notes, and memory files live in your workspace
• A reviewable “You” pane — what it learns arrives as proposals you accept or reject
• App control for named Mac apps — only when you ask, and only after you confirm each action
• Global Dashboard — ⇧⌥D from anywhere for vitals, calendar, weather, markets, news, and agent chat
• Vault notebook + Knowledge Library corpora, Kanban (including named jobs you hire in chat), and Activity for visible background work
• Sparkle auto-updates after install

What this preview is not

• Not open source — proprietary app; public docs and issues at github.com/DeadSeeds/mugi-ai
• Not bug-free — expect rough edges, especially long MLX sessions and first-time local search setup
• Intel Macs are not supported — Apple Silicon (M-series) required
• Not a silent agent — powerful features (mesh, council, web scripts) ship off by default
